Seasons change

It looks like change is a comin’. Just when I thought our country home would not sell, a large family came along and fell in love with it. The pond and yard will soon be teeming with kids fishing and playing ball.

In a few weeks when it’s time to clean house, mow and weed-eat our much smaller home, all the endless weekend chores of our big place will only be a memory. We’re delighted at the prospect of less work and more play!

One of the things we really enjoy is riding our motorcycle. It’s a black Roadstar complete with loud pipes and lots of chrome. Sad to say our beautiful bike has been gathering not only dust but probably cobwebs as well. Like a lonely toy at the bottom of some child’s toy box, our bike has been feeling neglected, I know. Now I’m dreaming of hitting the road with the wind blowing through my hair! Actually, that doesn’t happen with a helmet on, and most southern states require one.

Traveling around the country I have discovered that a state or two allow bikers to ride without helmets. Upon hitting the state line of North Carolina on a cross-country trip a few years back, I excitedly pulled off my helmet and felt the freedom of the open road. The exhilaration was short-lived as common sense took over. When I envisioned one of my children doing the same, I quickly replaced the helmet. But it really was fun for a minute there!

Another thing that excites me about moving is that I will be closer to my young grandson, Gauge. His dad has already suggested that he stay at my house for an hour each morning while his mom goes to the gym. I can hardly wait. I know some people would think that a chore, but I am not one of them. Life is so exciting when viewed through the eyes of a child, and I am already planning what adventures we will share on his daily visits.

Our new digs will be so much more convenient for grocery shopping and such. Oh, and the movie theatre is within walking distance! That really is a plus because Mike and I are movie buffs.

Since I love gardening, I cannot wait to work in my new yard. It is a small lot in town with some beautiful shrubs that need a little attention. I can just see it coming to life again with a little tender loving care. Next year, when I add a few flowers and get the lawn weed free, I may just get yard of the season from the garden club! Hmmm…sounds like I’m making more work for myself! I do try to keep a nice house and yard, so a smaller place will be much more manageable.

That’s a lot of big talk, as my grandpa would say, but I’m sure there are things I’ll miss about my country home. It’s hard to move forward when your looking back, so I’ll keep my eyes firmly focused on what’s ahead and think of all the positives of being a “townie.”
