A convenience store located at the intersection of Washington and Pearl Streets in Franklinton fell victim to an armed robbery on Monday, November 6th, around 9:00 P.M.
Law enforcement officials swiftly responded as the suspect fled the scene. The area was processed, and vital evidence was collected, initiating an intensive investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
The following day, detectives successfully apprehended a 17-year-old male juvenile, who ultimately confessed to the armed robbery. The suspect was subsequently remanded to the Florida Parish Detention Center. Notably, a sizable sum of the stolen money, as well as the mask and firearm used in the crime—previously reported stolen in Columbia, Mississippi—were ultimately recovered.
This incident sheds light on a concerning reality: a minor illegally owning a firearm and consciously opting to employ it in the commission of a felony, placing the lives of both the store clerk and the general public at risk. Additional concerns surrounding the suspect’s lack of schooling and adult supervision have emerged.
Leading the investigation was Detective Lieutenant Chad Dorsett, who received assistance from Sergeant Justin DiCarlo.
Franklinton Police Chief Justin Brown said, “The degradation of society is real, and it starts in the home. Know where your kids are, what they are doing, and who they are with. Hold them accountable because if you don’t, we will, and I assure you, anyone’s justification for lawlessness will not deter our commitment to keeping Franklinton safe.”
