Pine Raiders and Lady Raiders Dominate in Home Opener District Play

In a thrilling home opener of district play, the Pine Raiders and Lady Raiders showcased their basketball prowess against the Jewel Sumner Cowboys.
The Lady Raiders set the tone early, establishing a commanding 27-8 lead in the first quarter. Heading into halftime with a substantial advantage at 48-12, they continued their dominance in the second half, securing a resounding 56-21 victory. A collaborative effort on offense saw multiple contributors, led by Samantha Thomas with 10 points and Ana Kate Thomas with 9 points. Notable scorers included Ja’Layia Lee (8 points), Dillon Sumrall (7 points), Kori Sumrall (6 points), Addyson Phelps (4 points), Bailey Brooks, and Carlyn Kelehan (3 points each). Arminee Magee, Kirbee Magee, and Maggie Lyons each contributed 2 points.
The Raiders also claimed an early lead in the first quarter with a 13-7 edge. Carrying a 31-16 lead into halftime, they maintained momentum in the second half, clinching a 67-45 victory over district rivals, Sumner Cowboys. Zachary Thomas emerged as the top scorer, delivering an outstanding performance with 35 points, including a perfect 7-7 on free throws. D. J. Garrett followed suit with 18 points, complemented by Nathan Martin (7 points), Luke Spears (4 points), and Braylon Lott (3 points).
Both teams eagerly anticipate their full schedule of upcoming games next week.
