State Representative John Wyble hosts tour, critical meetings focused on economic future
SPECIAL TO THE DAILY NEWS
WASHINGTON PARISH, LA Louisiana Speaker of the House Phillip DeVillier completed a comprehensive 2-day tour of Washington Parish focusing on economic needs and opportunities while sharing his vision for Louisiana.
“The business community is focused on growth and removing obstacles to keep jobs in this Parish. We were able to hear from the paper mill, contractors, and developers on the challenges they face and how the State can be better partners in easing those challenges,” offered Speaker DeVillier.
DeVillier, accompanied by State Representative John Wyble, visited sites and attended group meetings across the parish.
“My goal was to get as many people as possible in front of Speaker DeVillier and I feel very good about accomplishing that goal. The Speaker commented his visit here was one of his most intense and productive visits as he makes his way around the state,” stated Representative Wyble, District 75 (Washington Parish).
While in Washington Parish, Speaker DeVillier had opportunities to meet with education leaders, pastors, business leaders, local investors, and parish leaders. The Washington Chamber of Commerce hosted a lunch that was open to the public and well attended.
“Touring Franklinton High School and meeting so many amazing students and faculty is a true example of what successful education looks like. These students are our future, and we must provide the best opportunities to keep them in our state. Of course, it was exciting as they are now competing in the Superdome this week for a state championship. Go Demons!” added Speaker DeVillier.
Important discussions on priorities to address in Washington Parish were especially informative as Speaker DeVillier learned firsthand of many challenges. “Through meetings with the local elected officials, concerns were shared about insurance cost, infrastructure, education, healthcare and jobs. We remain committed to the community that we will continue the efforts to improve outcomes.’
After a record year in 2024 with five total sessions, Representative Wyble admits the Legislature has been quite busy keeping up with the expectations of Governor Jeff Landry but appreciates the incredible leadership Speaker DeVillier has provided in getting historic reforms accomplished.
“We have been able to pass historic reforms that will finally move Louisiana from one of the least competitive states in the country to one of the most competitive states. We are already seeing these efforts pay off. I sincerely believe it is finally a new day for Louisiana and Washington Parish.
