Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest in Bogalusa

On June 12, 2025, officers with the Bogalusa Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. During the stop, officers discovered that the driver’s license was suspended. As the investigation progressed, officers observed suspected illegal narcotics in plain view inside the vehicle, prompting a search.
During the search, officers located a quantity of MDMA (Ecstasy) along with other items commonly associated with the illegal sale of narcotics.
The driver, identified as 38-year-old Kristina Jeanette Smith of Bogalusa, was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
• LRS 40:966 – Possession of MDMA (Ecstasy)
• LRS 40:1023 – Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• LRS 40:966E – Possession of Marijuana
• LRS 32:415 – Driving with a Suspended License
• LRS 32:232.3C – Turning Right on Red Where Prohibited
“This is an example of proactive police work that resulted in dangerous drugs being taken off the streets,” said Chief James Smith. “I commend these officers for the work they do to keep our city safe.”
